heuer, instead of dieses Jahr – this year
der Erdäpfel, instead of Kartoffeln – potatoes
das Faschirte; Faschiertes, instead of Hackfleisch – ground beef
der Karfiol, instead of Blumenkohl – cauliflower
das Kipferl, instead of Hörnchen – crescent roll
der Kukuruz, instead of Mais – maize
die Nockerln (plural), instead of Nocken – Gnocchi
die Ribisel, instead of Johannisbeere – Ribes
das Scherzl, instead of Kanten – heel, crust (of bread), heel end
der Paradeiser, instead of Tomaten – tomatoes
das Zuckerl, instead of Bonbon, Drops – Candy
Die Johannisbeeren – in Bayern, Austria and South Tyrol die Ribisel(n), in Switzerland Meertrübeli
Differences in the grammar:
In Austrian German the compound past (das Perfekt) of some verbs is used with sein, though in standard German in Germany they are used with haben:
standard German: Ich habe geschlafen
Austrian German: Ich bin geschlafen
standard German: Ich habe gesessen
Austrian German: Ich bin gesessen
standard German: Ich habe gestanden
Austrian German: Ich bin gestanden
